The BCFED Health & Safety Centre, with funding from the WCB of BC, has developed an Occupational Health and Safety workshop for students in Grades 10 to 12. Working with the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF), the Centre’s goal is to educate young workers and students around the province about occupational health and safety and how to prevent injuries, accidents and death.
The workshop is designed to give participants an understanding of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health & Safety Regulation, which govern their rights and responsibilities in the workplace. The workshop will also provide students with the skills to interpret and respond appropriately to different situations that may arise in their workplaces with regard to their health and safety rights.
The workshop is also available to youth registered with employment programs. Many of the young people in the employment programs are ‘at risk youth” and are often exposed to precarious employment. The workshop has been expanded for these participants to include more detailed information as well as a section on identifying and controlling hazards.
The Centre is pleased to offer you a new booking procedure this year via online requests. To schedule a speaker to talk to your students or young workers about health and safety, please complete the School/Employment Program Contact Information form below.
Due to scheduling we need a minimum of three weeks notice for booking presentations.
